5 Small Brands That Went Viral

5 Small Brands That Went Viral

Small brands are often known for their local presence within their communities. However, in this current digital era of marketing, are some brands that completely nailed their brand and product and went viral.

Dominique Ansel Bakery

Traditionally a French patisserie chef, Dominique Ansel found a unique way to combine his loyalty towards fine french cooking and the irrefutable American demand for doughnuts. Enter cronut – the ingenious and viral balance between doughnuts and croissants. Today, the bakery has expanded across 3 countries.

Dumb Ways to DieMetro Trains Melbourne

This was probably the first government campaign based out of dark humour that the world has ever seen. The simple gaming app launched by Melbourne Metro was part of an impactful campaign that went viral globally, and has had everyone humming their memorable tune.

Niantic Inc (Pokemon Go)

Too soon? Although the game may have lost its trail today, Pokemon Go was downloaded over 1 billion times in less than a year! The best part about this game was perhaps how it’s core motto – getting people out and active – was easily applicable to all players – old and young alike.

Cards Against Humanity

Pretty much every kid who owns this game has received a raised eyebrow from their parents upon close inspection. And yet, pretty much every kid wanted to own this card game. One of the most unorthodox brands out there, Cards Against Humanity rebelled against every marketing tactic, only for it to work in their favour. Quite humanlike in some ways, no?

Dollar Shave Club

Dollar Shave Club’s video marketing strategies are legendary. Period. Their hilarious inaugural video was viewed more than 22 million times, triggering their $615 million evaluation (in 2015). In 2016, they were acquired by Unilever for over $1 billion. In cash.
