It’s everyone’s dream to make a living out of the things we love doing. For Jon Reyes, it’s riding a scooter. Today, we’ll look back at his life and how he has become one of the most popular figures in this action-packed sport. We’ve had a chance to talk to him, here’s his story.
Who is he?
Jon Reyes is a professional athlete in the field of scooter riding. He has been riding for 16 years now and has been a professional athlete for 10 years. Sometime in 2013, he failed to land a trick that he has performed multiple times. It resulted in a knee injury which some believed to be career-ending. Did that stop Jon? Of course not.
After getting surgery and rehabilitating, he picked up his scooter and began riding again. Jon currently balances being an athlete, a content creator and brand ambassador. Over the course of time, he transitioned into riding and creating content as a full-time job.
Jon recognizes the power of YouTube in building a community for people who love the same sport like him. He expressed his love for the community he was able to build on YouTube.
“I noticed how truly connected YouTube is. The connection you have with your audience on this platform is unmeasurable and I’m so grateful to have them join me on this journey.”
What has he been up to?
He has been involved in creating a series of videos that document their action-packed lives and their unique profession. RideNYC began as a way for them to exhibit their creative intentions. Right now, it is a full-fledged movement.
Jon is also an ambassador and partner for some of the leading brands in the competitive scene. He is an ambassador for camera equipment companies along with having his own limited-edition scooter collaboration.
An Inspiration
Jon is the type of guy who was presented an almost “unwinnable” challenge and still prevailed. He wants to impart to everyone how his love for riding the scooter became a driving force for him to push harder. He said
“Being in full control, my success is driven by the amount of energy I put into my work.”
He also has three important reminders for everyone who hustles every single day:
“Being happy is #1, have self awareness and do whatever it takes to be happy because at the end of the day, it will always tell a greater story.”
